Jalon Valley: The Jalon valley, also known as Vall de Pop, is situated on the Costa Blanca coast of Spain slightly inland from the coastal regions of Denia, Javea, Moraira and Benidorm. Some areas of the coastal regions are becoming overdeveloped and overcrowded, especially in the summer months. However the Jalon Valley attracts a more discerning visitor and resident who appreciates more of a country feel; whilst the coast and its beautiful beaches are still only 30 minutes drive away. The Jalon valley has some of the best scenery in Spain. There are magnificent mountains which surround the orchards of olive trees, orange groves, raisins, almonds and vineyards. In late January and early February the whole the valley is covered with pink and white almond blossom which is a truly beautiful picture. The Jalon valley is a walkers paradise ranging from a very gentle stroll, to a long walk around the Sierra Bernia Mountains. The Jalon Valley is the course of the Gorgos River, whose source is at Castell de Castells and flows through the beautiful unspoilt villages of Murla, Parcent, Alcalali, Jalon and Lliber; and bustling towns of Senija and Benissa towards the sea. It is an area of contrasts: imposing mountain ranges, winding gorges and valleys bathed in the scent of vines leading to an abrupt coastline with welcoming coves and dramatic cliffs.
The Village of Jalon: The village of Jalon is at the heart of the Jalon Valley. In the old Square there is a fountain, which is where there is an open market on Tuesday mornings. Every Saturday morning there is a large rastro market held along the dry river bed, just outside the village. Seen from the main square is the famous Jalon Church with its blue dome. Roaming around the many small streets you will find an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. Jalon is famous for its local wines which you can sample in the numerous bodegas within the village. Jalon was under Arabic domination for over 500 years. The Arabians built two castles one for the Solana (the Aixa) and the other in the Bernia; both castles controlled Jalon Valley and the numerous settlers. The Arabians left behind the typical style of house for which Jalon is famous today, i.e. houses of stone and old bricks with large wooden doors and decorated walls. The Jalon Valley area is very popular with Ex-pats and there is always a selection of Spanish Villas, Apartments, Village and Townhouses for Sale. It is also a popular Spanish Holiday area and there are Villas and Apartments to rent.
